Summer is a-comin’ in
Loudly sing cuckoo!
Bloweth seed and groweth mead
And springeth wood anew,
Sing cuckoo
Ewe now bleateth after lamb,
Low’th after calf the cow.
Low’th after calf the cow.
Bullock starteth, buck now verteth,
Merry sing cuckoo,
Cuckoo, cuckoo,
Oh, loud now sing we cuckoo,
Oh, cease we never now!
Merry sing cuckoo,
Cuckoo, cuckoo,
Oh, loud now sing we cuckoo,
Oh, cease we never now!
Many updates to note!
We had hail twice again last night but it wasn't as long in duration as last time. It took some leaves from the trees but no big branches, so I'm hopeful it didn't damage any plants.
Today is the sunniest day, but mild, around 77 degrees F. The trees have certainly all leafed out and we're on the other side of Springtime.
The Vinca Vines seem to be hanging in there. The ones at the base of the northern Austrees are doing the best; they are more protected than the ones by along the NW fenceline.
Mom's ivy is doing well, except the veins she was training up towards the deck stairs fell down with the hail storm yesterday.
The irises are in full bloom.
Here is a short video from today of the busy, busy bees:
The radishes have all (but a couple) been harvested! We had a couple purple ones actually! Mom said she'd never seen that before so we figured a couple seeds from a different variant of radishes (other than "Cherry Belle" which these are) fell in during packaging.
The peas are beginning to climb the trellis, and the spinach is doing splendidly. The strawberries are doing alright. The carrots, celery, and leeks are growing like weeds, but I'm confused about the lettuce. I'm not sure if what we have in the bed is lettuce or some weed.
See all the lettuce-like stuff springing up here?
And this looks like a weed. . .
Lettuce or weed?
These, I know, are carrot tops:
And leeks:
And celery:
And celery in the neighboring bed. . . I think that rain we got shortly after I plan may have done some cross-seeding!
The grapevines and berry bushes and rose bush are growing well!
Baby grape clusters
Raspberries?
The yellow rose bush, coming back
The Yellow Blossom Sweetclover in Rho and Sigma is growing well. . . it is over nearing 6" tall, especially with last night's rain. This picture's from yesterday.
And this is some Spring Triticale cropping up in Lambda:
All the transplanted evergreens seem to be doing well. The weather has been merciful and rainy - really ideal for new transplants.
Mom cleaned up the back Austrees; they look great now.
Mom got a couple bikes for her and Dad the other day. Vive l'été et Deo Gratias pour tout!
